We will store large volumes of carbon in mining waste. Carbon is stored as a mineral - simple to track and account for. The best part: it improves the management of mining waste by stabilizing them physically and preventing the release of toxic metals. It is truly a win for the environment!
How Do We Store Carbon
Blue Skies Minerals is developing the Carbonated Tailings Process. In this process, we take large volumes of CO₂ and react it with mine tailings. The resulting mixture is cementitious and can be disposed underground or at surface. Carbon is converted to carbonate minerals and is retained permanently.
We use permitted facilities and a process that is easy to monitor. The Carbonated Tailings Process eliminates metal leaching from mining wastes, providing a tangible environmental benefit. We provide rock solid storage.
